Are you are planning to travel by Delta Airlines in the near future? Then there's a need to know all about Delta ticket cancellation policy. Delta Airlines offer the flexibility to cancel its regular (Refundable and Non-Refundable) and Award tickets.
If a non-refundable ticket has been purchased and you want to cancel it then Delta Airlines will deduct a cancellation fee from your original ticket cost. The airline will provide an eCredit on the remaining value, if any. You must use the eCredit within one year from the date of issue of ticket to purchase a new ticket for future travel. However, Basic Economy fares are restricted and can’t be cancelled. You will have to pay $200 or more as a cancellation fee (subject to change as per existing fare rules), which depends on your itinerary purchased.
If you have purchased a Refundable ticket and want to cancel due to change in your travel plans, then you can seek a refund after placing a cancellation request with Delta Airlines. You need to fill up a form and submit your refund request for an upcoming trip. After the cancellation is approved, the airline will process the refund to your original mode of payment.
Delta Airlines offer the flexibility to cancel award flights as well. The customers canceling award tickets within the 24-48 hour grace period will get a full refund. However, the customers can also cancel award tickets up to 72 hours before scheduled departure outside of 24-48 hour window. A fee of $150 will be charged by the airline for re-depositing the miles into your frequent flyer account. The airline has waived the fee for Platinum and Diamond Medallion members.
The 24-hour Delta risk free cancellation can be used by the customers to cancel their flight within 24 hours after purchasing the tickets. The airline will not charge a cancellation fee when using the 24-hour window and provide a full refund. Delta Airlines will be processing the refund on cancellation within 24 hours of purchase to the customer’s original mode of payment.
If you have done your Delta Airlines reservation from any Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) such as FlyOfinder, then the customer will have to cancel the ticket through the concerned travel company. The OTAs may charge an additional service fees along with the applicable cancellation fee.
It must be noted that a $50 external ticket handling fee will be charged by Delta Airlines for tickets issued by OTAs and other airlines.
